At Berg Digital, we believe that a powerful trading platform must also be an intuitive one. Complexity should reside in the market strategies, not in the user interface.
We recently for MTrading conducted in-depth usability testing on their personal trading account, focusing on the experience from a first-time login to executing a first trade.
Our goal of this usability research was to identify friction points and opportunities to make their platform even more seamless and empowering for traders of all levels.
About the MTrading
MTrading is a dynamic online broker providing access to a wide range of financial instruments, including Forex, stocks, indices, and cryptocurrencies. A key strength is their multi-platform approach, offering the classic MetaTrader 4 (MT4), a web-based platform, and a dedicated copy trading service designed to help beginners learn from experts.
Platform Tested: MTrading Personal Trading Account (Web-based version)
Objective: To evaluate the ease of use, efficiency, and learnability of key user flows for account management and trading.
Key Task Flows Tested:
- Account registration and initial deposit
- Navigating between Forex, stocks, and cryptocurrencies
- Executing a trade (buy/sell)
- Setting up and managing copy trading profiles
- Accessing educational resources and bonus information
Methodology used this usability research for MTrading
To ensure our findings were both qualitative and statistically significant, we adhered to the globally recognized usability research framework established by the Nielsen Norman Group (NN/g).
Data Analysis: Findings were synthesized using qualitative analysis methods. We focused on identifying patterns in user behavior, verbatim feedback, and specific pain points that hindered task completion. This approach moves beyond simple metrics to understand the “why” behind user struggles.
Participant Recruitment: We engaged 5 participants for this initial round of testing. NN/g research consistently shows that this quantity is sufficient to uncover over 80% of the most critical usability problems in a system. Our participants represented a mix of beginner and intermediate traders to capture a wide range of perspectives.

- Streamlining the Onboarding funnel
- Finding: The journey from registration to first deposit presented minor friction points that could lead to user drop-off.
- Insight: Simplifying form fields and providing clearer progress indicators can significantly increase conversion rates for new traders eager to start.
- Clarity in copy Trading setup
- Finding: While a powerful feature for beginners, the initial setup of the copy trading platform caused some confusion regarding risk settings and trader selection.
- Insight: Introducing a more guided, step-by-step wizard and clearer explanations of key terms would empower users and build trust in the feature.
- Intuitive Navigation between Asset Classes
- Finding: Switching between trading instruments (e.g., from Forex to cryptocurrencies) was not as seamless as it could be, requiring unnecessary clicks.
- Insight: A restructured primary navigation menu would allow for faster switching, enabling traders to react more quickly to market movements.
